讲座报告主题：The importance and praxes of effective reading in a usage-based SLA: Theoretical and personal perspectives
主讲内容：The importance of reading in language learning has long been well-documented and ample research has been doneon how to make readingmore effective. However, there does not appear to have been enough discussion on effective reading from a usage-based (especially cognitive linguistics-based) SLA perspective. This speech attempts to address this topic from such a perspective by drawing on both existing research and the speaker’s own extensive language learning and teaching experience. The speech will focus particularly on (1) how encyclopedic knowledgeplaysboth an important enabling and enriching role in reading and in language learning in general (i.e., how encyclopedic knowledge and reading are mutually dependent and enabling) and (2) how, with concrete suggestions and examples of proven praxes,we teachers can make reading more interesting, engaging, effective, and empoweringfor our students.
